If you are used to the “Scan-and-Pay” culture of China, you will adapt to Kigali instantly. We use MTN MoMo (Mobile Money) for almost everything. To establish this on your phone, visit an MTN Service Center (the main branches at UTC or MTN Center are best) with your passport to register a SIM card. Once active, ask the agent to “activate MoMo.” You can then load cash at any yellow MTN agent booth. When shopping, look for the 5 or 6-digit Merchant Code at the register—it works exactly like an Alipay/WeChat code. Dial *182*8*1*Code# to pay instantly.
Finding Quality Food Items
Shopping for food doesn’t have to be a struggle. For your daily vegetables, Cyizere Fruits in Kimironko is a favorite for many Asian residents. The produce is washed and neatly organized, offering a much more comfortable experience than the larger open markets.

When you need the specific taste of home, W2Y Supermarket is where you will find your pantry essentials. They stock the Haday (海天) brand, including oyster sauce and soy sauces. For general household goods, the T2000 Supermarket in the city center is the largest Chinese-run department store in the city and is highly recommended.
Communication and Leadership
Language is more than just words; it is a sign of respect. Since you may be managing teams or businesses, being able to give directions in Kinyarwanda will significantly improve your efficiency.
