Tips for Learning Kinyarwanda
Pronunciation Basics
Kinyarwanda is phonetic – words are pronounced as written. Focus on the vowel sounds which are consistent: a (ah), e (eh), i (ee), o (oh), u (oo).
Start Simple
Master greetings first. A simple “Muraho” (hello) and “Murakoze” (thank you) can go a long way in building rapport with locals.
Practice Daily
Try to use at least one new phrase each day. Locals appreciate the effort and will often help with pronunciation.
